Worth knowing

Floor coatings fail at the prep

An epoxy floor is only as good as its bond to the concrete. Smooth, sealed or oily concrete gives it nothing to hold, which is why the cleaning and grinding or etching take more of the time than rolling the coating.

Moisture is the other thing to check. Tape a square of plastic sheet to the floor and leave it a day. If the concrete under it turns dark or the plastic fogs, moisture is coming up through the slab, and that changes which coating will hold.

Coatings also need time to cure. A floor can be dry to walk on well before it is ready for a car, and parking on it early is how tire marks get printed into a new floor.

When a floor needs a coating

Four things worth
a phone call.

Dusty concrete

Bare concrete that leaves dust on everything is wearing at the surface.

Oil stains

Oil soaks into bare concrete and stays. A sealed floor wipes clean.

Old coating peeling in patches

A coating that peels never bonded. It has to come off before a new one goes down.

Coating lifting under tires

Hot tires lift floor paint that was not made for a garage.

Questions

this job gets booked.

It depends on the product and the temperature. We tell you for your floor before we start, so you can plan where the car goes.
Only if it is still well bonded. Peeling paint has to come off first, or the new coating peels with it.
Yes. Larger floors are planned in sections so you can keep working around them.
